Chee Meng Tan
Founder & CEO
blackx
Chee Meng founded blackx to invest in Asian music IP and the creators behind it, focusing on ownership and scale across rights, capital, and culture.
blackx invests in music royalties and related intellectual property (IP) across Asia, collaborating with artists and rights holders to acquire, grow, and scale through partnerships across rights, distribution, and investment. Led by music industry insiders with decades of experience in the region, blackx brings Asian music and culture to global audiences and builds long-term value through ownership and scale.
Chee Meng has spent over 25 years building Asia’s music industry from the inside, across media, technology, as well as independent and major labels. He was Spotify’s first employee in Singapore, establishing its Asia headquarters and serving as its most senior industry-facing executive in the region, and later led regional expansion for ADA, Warner Music Group’s independent distribution arm. He has also held senior roles at Sony Music and MTV.
He is the first Singaporean to be named twice on Billboard's International Power Players list.
